Twas the Midgets before Christmas
Indoor Race
Because of time constraints, the 1200 cc Lightning Sprint program for Sat had to be altered. In stead of hot laps, heat races, B mains and an A Main, the program was shortened to 2 A Mains. Our 1st A main rolled out to the track shortly after12:00 pm noon. The A mains were run in succession. Because of this last minute alteration, most of our fans missed our Sat part of the program. We apologize that you were not able to watch 2 terrific races.

Twas the Midgets before Christmas
Indoor Race
There were 40 cars registered for the 2 day event. It was a fantastic turnout of cars for this first annual race. The 1200 cc Outlaw Lighting Sprints had entries from 8 states. Their were over 300 total cars entered in 5 classes. There was a lot of action on the track. Most entrants agreed that there were some teething problems for this 1st event, but most said they would be back again. The below 20 degree weather for this time of year is uncommon. It is normally between 30 and 40 degrees. Even though the cold weather kept some specatators away there was a pretty good crowd.

This was our last race of the season. It was a rainout make up from Aug. We are the companion class with the World of Outlaws. The big 3/8 mile track really lets our cars show their speed. We are running in excess of 100 mph. The Racing Experience MOLS gave away another 10 lap You Race promotion.

8th 94 Jessica Brannan McHenry, IL
John Eaton jumped into the lead from his front row starting spot with John Heffernon, Scott and Beau giving chase. Beau would take over 2nd with Scott giving chase. Beau and Scott would have a great race for 2nd. After swapping back and forth Scott would take command of 2nd and start trying to run down John Eaton. Scott just didn’t have enough for John. Eaton 1st, Scott 2nd, Beau 3rd and Tim Brannan 4th. # 5 Nick Antonovich and 1d Merrill Lamb did not start.

18th 46 Dusty Murray Topeka, KS
19th 88 Nick Sheridan Fox Lake IL
A 6 was rolled on the die so the first 6 rows were inverted. Zach coming down for the green from his front row starting spot, stalled and the field had to navigate around him on the front stretch. This allowed Mark and Tim to lead the 1st lap. Mark was able to take over the top spot on the 2nd lap. Tim 2nd with Scott Wilson, Beau and Scott Allen fighting for 3rd. Kendall would make his way up from his 12 start spotting to join in the fun. There was a lot of swapping back and forth of the 2nd thru 5th spots. On the 13th lap, John Heffernon Jr caught a rut that started his car barrel rolling into the outside turn 2 wall cage first. John was taken out of the car on a backboard and transported to the hospital unconscious. As of this writing (12:05 pm), John was in the emergency room trauma center. We will report on John as soon as we have more info. The race was restarted with Mark in the lead, Austin 2nd, Tim 3rd, Scott Wilson 4th, Beau 5th and Scott Allen 6th. There was a lot of good racing throughout the field. Austin would challenge Mark for the lead but Mark always had an answer for him. The race would finish with Mark 1st, Austin 2nd, Scott Allen 3rd, Tim 4th and Kendall 5th.
Our thoughts and prayers are with John and his family tonight.
Update on John Heffernon Jr.
Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers! John is in the CCU at Stormont Vail in Topeka. He has sustained a severe brain injury along with multiple fractures in his arm and a stable spine fracture from the trauma. We are in a wait and see period. Currently he is stable, but we are taking things hour by hour. I will continue to update as conditions change. On behalf of my family and myself, my sincerest thank you for the positive thoughts and prayers!!!

Phil after clearing traffic is 4th. Jim had worked his way to 5th. Austin would pass Beau for the lead. Phil would get by his son on the next lap and go after Austin. Jim would have a torsion arm fail and would slow on the track bringing out a yellow. Phil and Austin would have a good battle for the lead. Phil would get by Austin in turn 4 and Austin would go back by Phil in turn 1. Phil would take command the next lap coming out of turn 4. Austin would catch a rut in turn 1 and bicycle and that was enough for Phil to gain a 6 car length advantage. Bob and Mark are now moving toward the front. We had a great night of racing at Valley Speedway. We were one of five classes that included the Dwarf Mod Lites, 600cc Open Micro Sprints (Sweet Springs Multi Class and the Dirt Demons. The track seemed to hold moisture and stay fast all night.
We drew a ticket for the driving experience but nobody came forward to claim the 10 Lap Racing Experience YOU RACE promotional giveaway. You race a Sprint Cup Car at Kansas Speedway against other drivers. No pace car to get in the way. This is a $ 395.00 value to the recipient. Even though Phil started last, he took command of the race on the first lap with nobody challenging him for the lead. Phil was in his own world as he almost started lapping the other drivers by the end of the 8 lap race. Frank, Matt, Duane and Dave fought amongst themselves for second through fifth position until the checkered flag fell, leaving Frank 2nd, Matt 3rd, Duane 4th and Dave 5th. Even though Phil does not race much with us he still has what it takes to win the race.

Zach would start to run away from the field until lap 5 when turn 3 got the best of him and he spun out. On the restart Scott was now in the lead with Dusty on his tail. They would go back and forth for the lead until turn 2; both of them together with Dusty going over and ending up on his side. Dusty’s car had some damage and could not finish the race. On the next restart Scott pulled away from the field by at least a half a strait away. He lead was shortened only a little bit by Beau who ended up second.
