Beau Heavelow and Dusty Murray had a great battle for the Points Championship for the entire year.  They traded the points lead back and forth several times.  Beau finally took the upper hand 2 races from the end of the season.   He will be crowned the 2007 MOLS Points Champion at our year end banquet.

Our next venture will be to show our cars at Race Fest at the Legends Mall (across from KS Speedway) on Friday evening Sept 28th.  The USAC Silver Crown Cars will also be there and the USAC drivers will be signing autographs.  The show starts about 6:30 pm.  Come out to the Mall and visit with our drivers.  Sit in the cars and enjoy the open wheel atmosphere.

Our Secretary/Treasurer, Debbie Marusarz, has been videoing our feature events and putting them on our website www.molsracing.com   If you have not seen these cars in action check out our website.  Debbie will also be selling a CD or DVD of all the feature races on one disc.

We have several top cars up for sale at great prices, as the owners are wanting to update their equipment.  If you have questions call me 913-522-5378.

Sept. 8, 2007-I-70 Speedway
We would like to thank all the racers and fans that showed up for the Chris Murray Memorial race. Two cars came from Illinois to race with MOLS. The track had good moisture all night, with the weather staying perfect. We would like to thank all of the people with I-70 speedway. As always they do a great job with the track and always take care of us.

The top 5 rows were inverted.  Dusty jumped quickly into the lead from his fifth row starting spot, and stayed there for the entire race.  Each position was hard fought.  Lots of action in every turn for the entire 20 lap race.  Jim Bevan saw the sky when he flipped his car on the 15th lap.  He is fine but his car needs some tender loving care this week.  After the re-start Dusty was off like lightning he appropriately won the race in his brother's honor.  Great job!

Each week you can see the feature race at http://www.molsracing.com
Our next race is Saturday September 22 @ Grain Valley.  This is our last regular season points race.  We need everyone there to race and support us.  Come out and meet your favorite driver.

Sept 2, 2007-Butler Speedway
This was our last appearance at Butler Speedway for this season. We had a good turnout with 14 cars. We have added one rookie Jason Rackley in the number 49 car, and we also welcome back for the first time this year Charles Flores and Scott Allen. The track had good moisture to start off the night but went dry slick for the feature.  The crowd was good and they had a good field of 5 classes of cars.
Heat 1

5th  19          Lenny Heffernon (4)  Olathe, KS
6th  46  Dusty Murray (5) Topeka, KS

Frank started on the front row and jumped into the lead. Frank retained the lead for the entire race. Merril stayed close to Frank but could not quite get him. Charles couldn’t start the heat because of engine problems.

Heat 2

6th  49  Jason Rackley (6) Independence, MO
7th   25         Donnie Graves (3) Kearney MO

John started on the front row and jumped into the lead.  After winning his first heat race of the season at Nevada, John was on a mission to win a second heat at any cost. Shortly into the race, Donnie became a little hot, as his oil line came off and started a fire in his car. He is doing fine but the car needs some “tender-loving-care.” Right after that Chris punched a hole in his motor to take him out for the night. When the green finally came back out Beau and Duane jumped in front of John and stayed there for the rest of the race.

Feature
1st    4  Beau Heavelow (6)
2nd  11  Duane Marusarz (4)

8th   X   Jim Bevan (11)
9th    58        Frank Ikerd (5)
10th   3         Charles Flores (10)

Jason, Chris, Dusty and Donnie did not start because of engine problems.

The top 3 rows were inverted. Dave jumped into the lead from his front row starting spot, but into turn one he spun out in which he had to start at the rear.  Merril then moved up to the pole position. He jumped out in to the early lead. Charles, Jim, and Frank left the race early with engine problems. With the track dry slick we had a couple of cars that spun out twice. Merrill after leading most of the race broke a battery cable and John went off with motor problems. With only three cars left we cut the race down to 10 laps with Beau winning Duane second and Lenny third.

Our next race is Saturday September 8 at I-70 which is the Chris Murray Memorial Race. We need everybody there. This is in honor of a great individual whose life was cut short by a tragedy. At this race we need to remember him and also think of how quickly that our life can change with out any notice.

July 14, 2007-I-70 Speedway
Our second night of wingless racing this year.  It seems the guys know how to set up the cars for the wingless venure.
Due to the threat of an incoming thunderstorm our heat race started while the asphalt race was still running. As every visit the track was in great condition.  I-70 knows how to prepare the track.

Lightning could be seen in the sky and on the track with the Lightning Sprints in their
feature race.  Lenny was on the pole position and held it until lap 4 when he spun out between turns 1 and 2. This was Lenny's first wingless race. Good job!  Phil wasted no time getting to the front of the cars.  He and son Beau battled for the top spot.  Dusty got in the battle and took 2nd spot while Phil took 1st and Beau had to settle for 3rd, followed by Chris in 4th and Duane in 5th. Some great side by side racing between Chris and Duane with Duane taking over the 4th spot.  A close race with John, Jim, and Donnie battling for the remaining spots.   Lenny worked his way back to the front of the group and had a good race with Duane for 4th spot with Lenny getting the spot. John Eaton spun out was forced to go to the back.  Donnie had steering problems, which prevented his normal finish in the top 5.

I-70 is a fantastic place for us to race. The staff is very helpful and excited we are there.  A super night of great racing!!!!!!!!!!!  A big thanks goes to Bob Franklin for his help at the track tonight.

Our next night of racing will be Saturday August 21 @ Springfield Raceway in Springfield MO.  Come out and watch the lightning speed of the cars.

Dave Parker made a guest appearance driving his # 40 car.  Dave had a bout with cancer last year and looks like he has won.  It sure is good to see him feeling well.  Donnie and Frank would start their battle for the top spot, with the rest of the field fighting it out for 3rd. Dave started his move coming up from his rear starting spot.  Frank would settle in the top spot with Donnie right on his tail.  Dave would clear the traffic and finally get by Donnie.  Frank and Dave would do battle for the lead.  Dave made a high side pass and take over the top spot.  Dave would hold on for the win, Frank 2nd and Donnie 3rd.

By the roll of the die, Beau would start on the pole with Duane to his outside.  Phil and Dave (the heat race winners) would start from the 4th row.  Beau would jump to the lead with the rest of the pack dicing for position.  By the 4th lap Dusty would make his way to 2nd with Phil running in 3rd.  There was plenty of hard racing going on behind the top 3.  Phil would finally get by Dusty on the 8th lap.  He would now try to unseat his son from the top spot while trying to hold off Dusty.  Phil made several good runs at Beau in the next couple of laps.  Beau would encounter lapped traffic with 4 to go.  That split second was all it took for Phil and Dusty to get by.  Dusty with a high groove pass was now in the lead with Phil 2nd, and Beau 3rd.  Phil would make a 1st turn pass on Dusty with 2 to go.  Dusty would fight for the position, but Phil would hold on for the win, Dusty 2nd, Beau 3rd, Donnie 4th and Duane 5th.

Both heats and feature went green to checker with no yellows or reds.  The guys did a great job of driving; really putting on a fast paced show.
Our next race will be at I-70 Dirt Track on Sat.14th.  This will be our 2nd night of NON wing racing this season.  It will be exciting to watch. The I-70 asphalt track will also be running. Come out and see 2 types of circle track racing for the price of one.

#3 Charles Flores did not start because of fuel problems.

The feature started straight up as to heat race finishes.  Beau and Dusty started a great battle for the lead.  With the track drying out and our inexperience without wings (both on set up and driving skills) we started a parade of spins.  We finally started the race and got 2 laps in before another spin.  Barry had worked his way forward and now was in 2nd.  He and Beau would have a good battle for the top spot.  The rest of the field was mixing it up trying to find a line that suited the non wing setup.

The race was exciting with a lot of side by side racing and passing back and forth.  The race finished with Beau in 1st, Barry 2nd, Merrill 3rd, Rookie John Eaton 4th, and Rookie Chris Schofield 5th.   At the mandatory weigh in after the feature, (the car {without wings} and driver must weigh 900 lbs.), Merril and John were found to be a few pounds shy of the 900 pound minimum and were DQed to the back.  All of the drivers did a great job of adapting to driving without the wings.  Even though we had a few spins, we had no torn up race cars and most of the drivers had big smiles on their faces after the feature.
The MOLS puts their wings back on and next invades the I-70 Dirt track for an open wheel night of racing with the SMRS Midgets.  Don’t miss Sat night Jun 30th for this great night of open wheel racing.  The I-70 Asphalt Track will be running on that night as well.  For the regular price of admission, you get to watch 2 tracks of racing.  Come join us.

June 9, 2007 - I-70 Speedway
The night was perfect for some great racing.  The high banks on the asphalt saw a great ASA Late Model race.  Right after it, the MOLS showed the fans what dirt racing was all about.  The rack was smooth and well prepared.

Dusty and Beau brought the field down for the start.  Dusty jumped into the lead with Beau right beside.  This pair had a great battle for the first 5 laps.  Dusty finally got a little breathing room.  Frank was running a close 3rd.  The rest of the field was dicing back and forth.  Dusty started to get into lapped traffic on the white flag lap of the 20 lap race.  As Dusty took the checkered with Beau 2nd, Frank spun into the infield while running 3rd.   Donnie running a great race from his 3rd row start, finished 3rd, Lenny 4th and Duane 5th.  It was a green to checker feature, with no yellows or reds.

Our next race is at Adrian Speedway on the 16th.  This will be a non wing race.  It will be the 1st time since 2005 that the MOLS has taken off their wings.  This will be our only visit to Adrian this year.  This track is a great size track for our cars and Glen always has it prepared smooth as glass.  We welcome everyone to come watch this exciting group of drivers and cars.  If you are interested in finding out more, our website is www.molsracing.com or give me a call at 913-768-1017

May 28 - I-70 Speedway
After 2 nites of trying to get a race in, I-70 was finally successful on Monday afternoon.  This was the open wheel show that had been postponed because of rain from the Sunday evening.  The track was smooth, but being a daytime race the track turned dry slick.  The midgets, non wing sprint cars and the MOLS guys put on a great show.  The postponements of 2 nites took a toll on our car count.

Phil and Dusty split the front row on the first lap.  Phil led with Dusty right on his bumper.  Dusty pestered Phil but couldn’t get enough momentum to make a good run at him.  Chris was able to get by Frank and Joe.  Phil took the win with Dusty 2nd and Chris holding on to 3rd.

Frank and Jim brought the field down for the green.  Frank led the first lap with Dusty and Phil giving chase.  The rest of the pack was doing the first lap shuffle.  Dusty got by Frank on lap 2.  Phil cleared Frank on lap 3, but Frank stayed on his bumper.  Jim settled into 4th with Beau 5th.  Chris, John and Donnie were all swapping back and forth for the 6th spot.  On the 13th lap, Phil had caught up with Dusty.  It looked as though this was going to be a really good race, until the clutch let go in Dusty’s car just after Phil made the low side pass on the front straightaway.  Dusty coasted to a stop.  The restart saw Frank on Phil’s bumper, but he would not get any closer.  Phil was 1st, Frank 2nd, Beau finally got around Jim for 3rd, Jim 4th and rookie Chris Schofield was 5th.  Joe Lackner was unable to take the green because of broken ignition wire.
Our next race will be at Butler Motor Speedway on Sunday June 3rd.  Hot laps are 5:00 racing at 6:00pm  Come see these motorcycle powered rockets invade the fast 3/8 mile in Butler MO.

May 19 - Nevada
This was the 2nd of 3 nights at Nevada Speedway for this season.  The track specially prepared for our cars by Tina Scism, the track owner, and her crew.  It was smooth as glass and kept moisture most of the night.  The crowd was good and they had a good field of 5 classes of cars.  Once again we were pitted right next to the grandstand.  This allows them to open our pit gate at intermission and the spectators come in to visit and get autographs signed.

Heat #1

5th        9s Chris Schofield (5) Raymore, MO

Donnie and Duane brought the field down for the green.  Donnie jumped into the lead and that was settled for 1st place.  The battle for 2nd between Frank, Duane, and Merrill proved to be a good one.  Frank managed to get by Duane on the white flag for the runner up spot. Rookie Chris Schofield is starting to get the handle on car set up and finished 3 car lengths behind Merrill.

Heat #2

5th        18   John Eaton (5) Olathe, KS
6th          X  Jim Bevan (4) Valley Falls, KS

Beau and Dusty started on the front row and decided to make a race of it between them.  There was a lot of dicing back and forth with Beau finally getting control.  Barry was able to make his way up from the back of the starting grid for the 3rd spot with Joe right on his tail.
Rookie John Eaton did a good job getting his car up to speed and will be very competitive in a few more outing. Jim Bevan has come back to race with us after a layoff of 7 or 8 years.  He is sorting out a new car and a lot of rust from not driving for awhile.

Frank Ikerd did not start because of chain problems.
The top 4 rows were inverted.  Because a roll of a 4 on the die. Merrill and Joe brought the field down.  Merrill jumped to the lead with brother, Barry and Beau right on his bumper.  The rest of the field was a traffic jam.  On the second lap, Beau went to the outside to pass Merrill just as Barry was trying him on the inside.  They completed the pass but Joe spun with Duane spinning to avoid Joe.  They went to the back of the field, with Merrill, Barry and Beau lined up in the top spots with Chris, John, and Jim following.  The restart saw both Barry and Beau split Merrill.  This time there would no more yellows.  Beau and Barry had a good battle until Beau finally was able to get a little distance between he and the 5 car.  Dusty would eventually to get by Merrill for the 3rd spot.  Beau would get the win, Barry 2nd, Dusty 3rd, Merrill 4th, and Donnie 5th.

May 12 - I-70 Speedway
This is our first visit of the year to the new dirt track @ I-70 Speedway.  This small 3/8 is extremely smooth.  It is "D" shaped and offers wide grooves for side by side racing.  Because of all the rain they still have some lights to put up to make more light on the racing surface; with the dryer weather for this week that should solve any lighting problems.  The crowd is enthusiastic and welcome the racers.
