Chris Dean Murray, Jr., age 26 of Kansas City, Missouri passed away August 6, 2002, at KU Medical Center where he had been since April 1, 2002, after a tragic accident at home which left him with severe burns.  Chris fought for 4 months to recover, but could not fight an infection.

Chris was a member of the Midwest Outlaw Lightning Sprint for 3 years.  During that time, Chris was admired and respected by all of the drivers he raced with.  He kept us laughing with his antics and his creative fix-its on his car.  He has been greatly missed by all of us.

Our drivers feel it’s a privilege to race in the Chris Murray Memorial race each year and to honor their friend’s memory.  We remember Chris every year with the Chris Murray Hard Charger Award at the awards banquet as well.  Dusty, Chris’ younger brother, has been awarded that honor twice in recent years.

Dusty has taken over the pilot seat of Chris’ lightning sprint (now #46) and has made Chris and the rest of his family proud with several feature wins with the group.
